Vintage Schwinn Approved Chrome Bike Speedometer Head Huret Bicycle

This is a nice old survivor from the late 1960s, a clean (though not cosmetically perfect ) and fully functional 0-60 MPH Schwinn Approved speedometer head from Huret of France, made in the original series from 1968 through 1974. Details of its construction show that this was a First Year Production example, including a gray sealing gasket around the glass inside (where all later ones are black) and a flat machined collar nut on the back, which was changed to a stamped nut shortly after production began. T his has had a full rebuild and is in full working order with a fair overall finish. It's been disassembled, freshly lubricated, polished, waxed and reassembled, turning freely and ready to go. There are dents, finish pitting and scarring in the chrome along the upper back edge of the rear case (see Photos 3, 4 & 5) , so it is not cosmetically perfect, but a ll chrome has been polished to restore what remains of the shine, and waxed to keep it that way. The speedometer head is 2 3/8" wide, 2¼" high and 1 5/8" deep. It has a polished chrome bezel, glass face, and chrome housing, with white numbers on a black dial, and a light orange pointer. The original mounting bracket carriage bolt and nut were missing, so I have installed new replacements. There is no accumulated mileage; it's just passing 0000. 1 . This head can be used on any size of front wheel, as these Huret models are calibrated by the drive hub (not included), not the speedometer head. NOTES: Drive cable and drive hub are not included. This Schwinn Approved Huret speedo head fits any size of bicycle; the correct reading is determined by the Schwinn or Huret drive hub (sold separately), which should be stamped with the correct front wheel size for your bike.
