Vintage Schwinn Sierra Mountain Bike 1980s Thumb Shifters Suzue Araya

Vintage 1987 Schwinn Sierra. 17" frame size measured c-t-c of seat tube. 18.5" c-t-t. 21" top tube. Standover height is ~30". Fits 26" wheels. Recently overhauled and rebuilt.
Sakae SX triple crankset with Shimano derailleurs, cantilever brakes, and thumb shifters. White brakes and brake levers. Cool! Thumb shifters look, feel, and work great. Brakes and shifters have brand new cables, including the straddle cables for the brakes, front and rear. Cranks were disassembled and deep cleaned. Bottom bracket disassembled, degreased, surfaces polished, and repacked with fresh grease. MKS Sylvan pedals are a nice touch.
Super cool white Suzue "Sealed System" hubs laced to Araya rims with nice decals. Rims could use a light polishing but are in very nice shape. Hubs have minor wear to white finish. Nice wide range 5 speed freewheel in great shape! Super smooth, very clean, with miles and miles to go! I cleaned and lubed the freewheel. Repacked hubs with Phil Wood grease.
Tires are very nice Specialized Hemisphere EX Armadillo 26" x 1.95 with classic brown sidewalls. These are high pressure (rated 35-80 PSI) fast rolling tires with good puncture protection. Tires have some very minor cracking due to age but are in great overall shape and fine for general riding, good tread life left. Honestly hard to find 26" tires this nice nowadays.
Saddle is brand new. Looks sharp and feels great. Nice center cutaway area. Seatpost has a little bit of tarnish from age, nothing crazy. Looks great! It's nice and long so there's lots of room for adjustment. Quick release seat binder.
Original handlebar setup with beautiful 2-bolt clamp stem and lovely swept back riser bar. Stem has a lot of room for adjustment, slam it for a more aggressive position, or raise it up and get chill on a weekend ride! Pictured at somewhere around the halfway mark.
Tons of fun to ride. Rolls great. Could easily add racks or fenders, or would be a great fit for a handlebar bag. Lots of ways to customize and add your personal touch.
This bike is nearly 40 years old! It does have a couple scrapes here and there, some near the rear non-drive dropout, and some light kickstand marring to chainstays, pictured. It's in great shape for a bike of its age. Still a looker!
