This offering is for a wholesale lot (4 sets) of new-old-stock Casiraghi MTB (cantilever) brake cable sets that includes neon yellow cable housing, primary brake cables, chromed metal ferrules and straddle cables for the installation of a front and rear cantilever brake set with the straddle-wire design (which we believe to be a fairly common design among older Shimano cantilever brakes, as well as other brands...new and old). We settled on the 4 cable sets for this offering, because this is the number of cable sets we are able to securely pack in a USPS Flat Rate padded mailer...to offer the best value for your shipping dollar (except for Canada...where the USPS First Class International option is still the most economical...and is available at check-out). Please also note the per unit pricing is near half our store price for an equivalent single cable set and the per unit flat rate shipping cost (both domestic and international) is less than half of the cost relative to one of these cable sets shipped individually. We won't go so far as to say these are high-end brake cable sets, but they are certainly above entry-level status. The housing is tightly wound flattened steel wrapped in a spiral formation that is very effective at resisting compression pressure when the brakes are applied. We also specifically noted the steel is flattened, because this material is stronger and more compression resistant relative to rounded steel that is wrapped in a similar manner. There is also a plastic liner/sleeve in between the steel housing and the cable (or inner wire), which has little to do with compression, but significantly reduces friction as the cable slides back and forth within the confines of steel housing. Additionally (and although probably not as noticeable), the inner liner also serves to help protect the steel cable and housing from rust and corrosion, which extends the overall life of the cable set. In terms of specifications, these sets appear to be slightly oversized...with the primary cable housing, cylinder-shaped heads and inner wire measuring 6.0 mm, 8.0 mm and 1.9 mm (in diameter), respectively. As for cable/housing lengths, the front cable/housing measures 900 mm/800 mm and the rear measures 1,320 mm/1,090 mm. I do not believe there is any advantage to the slightly oversized measurements associated with these cable sets, but still wanted to mention the specs for those that may have compatibility concerns. These cable sets came to us in their original retail packaging...although nothing special (as the plastic packaging has yellowed and is falling apart...so we will have to re-package many of the sets). Still, the cable sets appear to have been fairly well preserved. The plastic/rubber covering (over the steel housing) still shows well (and brighter then the pictures indicate...as noted above) and there are no signs of any rust or corrosion on the cables or housing.
